Dr. Katie Nakamura
Dr. Nakamura grew up in Seymour, a small town in Indiana, where she was an active member of the community. She participated in 4-H, played softball, and trained seeing-eye dogs during her youth. After graduating from Seymour High School, she attended Purdue University, where she studied biochemistry as an undergraduate student.
Dr. Nakamura continued her education at Purdue, earning her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 2006. During veterinary school, she interned with multiple veterinarians in Idaho and gained expertise in pregnancy diagnosis in dairy cattle. Additionally, she worked as a laboratory technician at Purdue's Veterinarian Teaching Hospital, developing proficiency in various laboratory tests.
Following graduation, Dr. Nakamura returned to her hometown and practiced as a mixed animal associate veterinarian for 4.5 years. During her time in Seymour, she treated and performed surgeries on both small and large animals, gaining valuable experience in the field.
Dr. Nakamura's husband, Marcus, is a "local boy" from Pearl City, which prompted her move to Hawaii. She joined the team at King Street Pet Hospital in November 2010 and has been a valuable member of the team ever since. Dr. Nakamura and her husband have three sons, Avery, Asher, and Asa, as well as 2 Siamese cats named Skippyjon Jones and JillyBoo. In her free time, she enjoys working out, spending time with her family, attending her children's activities, and trying different island cuisines.
